If the infection situation remains quiet through the year-end and New Year period, including the forthcoming three-day vacation through Monday, the campaign might be launched as early as late January, according to the Japan Tourism Agency.

At a news conference on Friday, Saito said, “We’re not at a stage where we can declare a precise timetable for beginning the campaign.” “We’re in a scenario where we have to presume that (the coronavirus) will spread quickly.”

The minister emphasized that the resumption of the tourist promotion is contingent on the infection situation remaining stable.
